Thai Government, Seafood Industry, Take Further Actions to Combat Labor Abuse, IUU Fishing

The Thai government and the Seafood Industry announced further steps to reform labor practices in Thailand, said the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington.
Last month the law prohibiting employment of people under 18 years of age in seafood processing came into force. The government is now publicizing and instructing local authorities to enforce this law.
Secondly, at the end of last year, a new license structure for vessels that requires minimum crew standards, including access to adaquate food, medical care, and sanitation.
Further, a coalition of the Thai private sector has come together to pledge their full support to work with the government to fight against IUU fishing, human trafficking and to improve labor conditions in the fisheries sector.
