Commercial F/Vs Don't Get Permanent Discharge Exemption, May Face Higher Costs in Coast Guard Act

The Seafood Harvesters of America was generally pleased with unanimous passage of the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2015. However, the group did take issue with the legislation's alternative safety compliance program for new and existing vessels in addition to the bill's failure to issue a permanent discharge exemption for commercial fishing vessels.
Congress passed H.R. 4188 after the House unanimously voted for the bill in session today. The Senate version of the legislation was passed in December. The Act now goes to the White House for a final signature from President Obama.
