Vietnam's Catfish Sales to Russia Plunge Due to Currency Woes

There is a great decrease in Vietnam’s catfish export value to Russia during 2015. According to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Vietnam has exported catfish worth US$ 16.8 million to Russia in 2015, which is 49% lower when compared with the same period last year. And the value is only 1.08% of Vietnam’s total catfish export.
Russian import statistics show that the total volume decreased by 39% to reach 452.6 thousand tons during the first ten months of 2015 compared with the year before. The situation mainly results from the depreciation of Russian ruble as well as the decrease in the country’s domestic consumption.
