West Coast Shrimp Fishery Hits the Wall

The West Coast Pink Shrimp fishery may have hit a wall. After years of record and near record harvest, shrimp are simply not showing up this year. Furthermore, there has been no agreement on pricing, and the West Coast fleet is in the 21st day of a tie up due to lack of price settlement.
Both processors and fishermen are concerned about the future.
Fishermen reported that some company boats tested the waters and found only small shrimp. One trip had only 400 pounds of legal-size shrimp landed after three days of fishing. In another trip, more than 15,000 pounds of undersized..
