India Expects to Improve Shrimp Broodstock Production Through Foreign Investments

The Indian government's decision to allow 100 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) in its aquaculture sector, Indian shrimps exporters can now get new technology that will help them in competing in global markets.
Currently, Indian shrimps exporters have to rely on broodstock from domestic firms, whose production and quality lags behind other countries including China, Thailand, Indonesia and some other southeast Asian nations.
Speaking on this development to a national business daily, L Satyanarain, president of All India Shrimp Hatcheries Association said, after this foreign firms can now directly set up brood stock multiplication centers and produce genetically improved broodstock over 2-3 years.
