Gulf Shrimp Landings Up Sharply YTD But is Short On Brown and Smaller Sized Varieties

Shrimp landings out of the Gulf of Mexico through June are up sharply compared to last year’s figures but buyers and processors indicate that the catch is lacking in several key market sizes and shrimp types.
Through June, Gulf landings are up 18 percent from last year at 35.2 million pounds. Landings out of key producing states Louisiana and Texas were each higher from monthly figures compared to last year.
However, federal landing statistics do not break down the haul by type or size. This is where reports suggest several issues with the haul that are impacting the markets...
