EU Leaders Scramble to Save CETA Agreement at Last Minute

The current EU summit in Brussels this week has been overshadowed by the prospect of a failure of the CETA trade deal with Canada.
The agreement is scheduled to be signed at formal ceremonies in Canada next week. It is also supported by all 28 EU member states.
However Belgium cannot sign the agreement without the approval of a regional parliament, and in the Walloon area, the parliament is dead set against the treaty.
Last minute attempts to get the Wallonia parliament to agree so far have not been successful. This has raised the specter of whether the EU can conclude large scale trade agreement in today's environment, where many people have turned against globalization.
