Over Half of Alaska's Norton Sound Winter Red King Crab Quota Now Landed

Approximately 17,000 pounds or 43% remains of the winter red king crab commercial guideline harvest limit (GHL). Based on current catch rates, the total GHL should be caught by early March. The red king crab GHL for the Norton Sound winter through the ice commercial fishery is 39,744 pounds.
Once the open access winter fishery ends, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game will open the Community Development Quota (CDQ) commercial fishery to harvest the CDQ allocation of 37,260 lbs. By regulation, the CDQ is allocated 7.5% of the annual allowable commercial harvest the 2017 GHL of 496,800 pounds of red king crab. The winter CDQ season could close when...
