Oregon Processors Warned of New DEQ Regulations, Costs for Wastewater Discharge

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality held a series of meetings with seafood processors last week with a warning: Get ready for new wastewater discharge permitting requirements.
Seafood processors' wastewater discharge is covered either under an Oregon 900J general permit or an individual state permit that implements the federal National Pollution Discharge Elimination System permit. Of the 24 processors DEQ officials visited over the last year, many may require individual permits.
