Federal Fishery Report Notes Wave of Chinese, South Korean Investment in Russia's Fishing Industry

Russia's Federal Agency of Fisheries (Rosrybolovstvo) said Chinese and South Korean business are still attempting to expand into the Russian fish and aquiculture business. A report from the Agency said efforts by the Chinese and South Koreans include gaining control over Russia’s largest fish producers and processors and through efforts of changing local legislation in the fish business.
The decision of Rosrybolovstvo to create conditions for the development of fish processing in the Russian Far East is contrary to the plans of the Chinese business to strengthen its presence in the Russian fish market since it could reduce China's access to cheap fish resources.
