Faulty Pump Kills Some Fall Chinook Rescued from Feather River Hatchery

For want of a wire, the pump was lost. For want of a pump, the salmon were lost.
An estimated 200,000 to 300,000 fall-run Chinook were killed early Wednesday morning at the Thermalito Facility of the Feather River Fish Hatchery due to a pump failure from a faulty wire.
However, more than 2 million remaining salmon at the facility will be released over the next month as they reach an appropriate size, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
