Full Cycle Aquaculture Grows Rapidly in Japan as Giants Nissui and Maruha Nichiro Target New Species

The range of full-cycle fish aquaculture that does not depend on harvests of wild fisheries is expanding.
Nippon Suisan Ltd. (Nissui), a major Japanese fisheries company, is now eyeing marketing fully-cultured common octopus starting in 2020.
Maruha Nichiro Corporation will also start expanding perfect aquaculture of kampachi (great amberjack) shortly.
Aquaculture production has been growing, reflecting burgeoning demand for seafood worldwide, and Japanese fisheries firms are hastening to build up a system of stable supply of cultured fish.
