Sea Grant Funding Restored by House of Representatives Appropriations Committee

NARRAGANSETT - Sea Grant officials are breathing a sigh of relief after learning that funding for the program will continue for another year, despite a request by President Donald Trump to eliminate it.
The Fiscal Year 2018 Commerce, Justice and Science appropriations bill, passed by the full House of Representatives Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, preserves funding for Sea Grant programs at 33 universities, including the University of Rhode Island and the University of Connecticut. "We knew a week ago that a solution had been reached in our favor," said Dennis Nixon, director of Rhode Island Sea Grant. "It's a much better scenario than what we were looking at."
