New Study Says Marine Reserves Can Help Commercial Fishermen Avoid Bycatch Choke Points

Marine reserves are set up to protect an area from “activities that remove animals or plants.” That generally means that fishing is not allowed in those areas. However, a new study led by the University of California, Davis, in a journal from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), reveals that commercial fisherman are actually benefitting from the marine reserves.
