New research shows that “inefficient” traditional fishing methods are keeping a Cornish fishery in business.
Scientists at the University of Exeter have discovered that the Fal fishery in Cornwall is helping the ecosystem by using traditional fishing methods instead of motorizing their fleet. The Oyster fishery relies on a sail-driven commercial fishing fleet and hand-hauled dredges to catch oysters. While those methods might seem “inefficient” to some, it has actually prevented overfishing.
