Zinke Memo Recommends Restoring Commercial Fishing to Northeast Canyon and Other Marine Monuments

According to Interior Secretary Zinke’s Review of National Monuments obtained by the Washington Post, the recommendation for all three marine monuments reviewed s to restore fisheries management authority to the respective regional management councils.
The Northeast Canyon’s Monument, which has been vigorously opposed by fishing interests in New England, would be re-opened to commercial fishing under the recommendation, and management would be done under the Magnuson Stevens Act.
