It's that time of year in Oregon: The fall transition. While the rains and winds start to appear on land, changes in phytoplankton communities in the ocean change as well. That also means potential changes to fisheries such as Dungeness crab.
Hatfield Marine Science Center scientists routinely visit a long-term continental shelf station 5 miles offshore at the Newport line to monitor changing ocean conditions and post their findings on the Newportal Blog. Researchers visited the station again in early October.
