Record Level of Kamchatka King Crab Biomass Announced by TINRO; Further Quota Increases Likely

The number of Kamchatka crab in the Sea of Okhotsk has reached record levels over the past 40 years and continues to grow, according to recent statements of an official spokesman of the Russian Federal Agency of Fisheries (Rosrybolovstvo).
According to scientists of the Russian Pacific Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography (TINRO), a record commercial stock of Kamchatka crab is currently observed throughout the shelf of western Kamchatka. This creates conditions for the increase of catch already during the current fishing season.
