AP Recommends Modest Increases in Pollock, POP, and Sablefish TACs in Bering Sea

The North Pacific Fisheries Management Council will not adopt final catch limits until Friday or Saturday, but so far the Advisory Panel has recommended a 19,000 met increase in the pollock TAC for 2018 to 1,383,841 mt. That total includes the Aleutian Islands and Bogoslof; the recommendation for the Bering Sea alone is 1,364,341.
The AP also recommended an increase for sablefish of nearly 15% to 3,452 mt for the upcoming season.
The council sets TACs for over 20 different commercial species in the BSAI, balancing TACs against population stock size and working within a statutory requirement to keep total catch at a ceiling of exactly 2 million metric tons each year...
