California Bill Would Crack Down on Fishing Operations That Poach in Marine Protected Areas

California State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, D-San Diego, on Feb. 14 introduced a bill that would crack down on illegal poaching by fishing operations in protecting marine areas.
AB 2369 follows her successful introduction and ultimate passage of AB 298 in 2015 that allowed the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to issue violators a ticket -- akin to a traffic violation -- to enforce restrictions of fishing in marine protected areas.
