FDA Announces Equivalency Plan for Oysters, Mussel, Clam Exports to Europe After 8 Year Standoff

The FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb announced today that the agency has an equivalency plan with the EU for molluscan shellfish. This means that the FDA will accept that safety controls in Europe for raw and live mussels, clams, oysters and scallops are equivalent to those in the US.
At the same time, the EU will accept American FDA rules as sufficient for export of live and raw molluscan shellfish to the EU.
