Four Chinese seafood dealers sent to prison when their products contained malachite green

Four Chinese seafood dealers were sentenced to six to eight months in prison and fined 10,000 yuan each, after inspectors detected malachite green in their freshwater fish at the Luofang Aquatic Wholesale market.
Malachite Green, widely used in dyes and coloring agents, has been banned for use as an aquaculture drug by the FDA since 1983, and many other countries have followed suit as studies show human consumption leads to toxic changes, and possible higher cancer risk.
