CAPMA sees increase in Chinese tilapia output this year, turn to other markets, particularly EU

CAPMA is the Chinese Aquacultural Product Marketing Association, and they have provided an overview of tilapia markets for the coming year. The key points are increased demand outside of the US, expectations for more supply for export from China, and a note that Vietnam, due to restrictions on catfish trade, is going to produce more tilapia.
Every January of Chinese calendar is the busy season in the Asian markets with great demand for live tilapias and this can be proved by the tilapia price increase of 50% in retail and foodservice in China during this period. So the markets need an increase of tilapia supply from such areas as Mainland China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia to meet the great demand during the New Year holiday.
