New England fishermen and residents back cull of exploding grey seal population

The efforts to protect the grey seal population have succeed at bringing them from the brink of extinction in the 1960s to a thriving species five decades later.
However, the success is bringing with it new concerns. For starters, fisherman in this area are complaining that the voracious fish eating seals are reducing the fish population which the they rely upon for their income and livelihood.
Residents have drawn the same conclusion but for different reasons. They claim that the grey seals are a staple for sharks and with their population restored, they have drawn more sharks to the area putting humans at greater risk. Additionally, the seals crowd the beaches at the expense of those wanting to enjoy the shores. Predictably, conservationists, who are not impacted by the grey seals, disagree that culls are needed.
