Canada's KSM Acidic Open Pit Mine That Threatens SE Alaska Salmon has Sailed Thru Approval Process

Canadian government officials have released an environmental assessment which concludes that a proposed mitigation measure for a large open pit mine near the Alaska border would safeguard Alaska's fisheries and human health.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency in Vancouver, British Columbia, also announced July 21 a fourth and final comment period on its assessment, through Aug. 20.
The Alaska Chapter of Trout Unlimited meanwhile released a statement challenging that assessment, from representatives of Rivers Without Borders, the Petersburg Vessel Owners Association, the Central Council of Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, and a private sportfishing firm, Hooked on Juneau.
The controversy centers around plans of the junior mining company Seabridge Gold, with offices in Toronto and Smithers, British Columbia, which has proposed to build the KSM (Kerr-Sulphurets-Mitchell) project, a large open pit gold, copper, silver and molybdenum mine in the headwaters of the Unuk and Nass Rivers...
