Marine Harvest decides to pull Chilean operations out of Lake Llanquihue in Los Lagos

Marine Harvest said it will pull its salmon farming operations in Lake Llanquihue located in the Los Lagos region following months of pressure from Chilean officials to cease production in the area.
Back in March the Chilean government petitioned Marine Harvest to terminate its lease agreement in Lake Llanquihue citing a few minor harvest infractions. But Marine Harvest's attorney's said they would fight the action saying the company was never fined since the violations were not found to be in gross violation of the country's farming standards.
Legally, there were grounds to terminate Marine Harvest's lease agreement ahead of schedule if a pattern of production violations can be traced over a couple of years. Marine Harvest was not found to be eligible to have its lease revoked based on the criteria...
