Alabama's new red snapper reporting program shows feds grossly overestimated state's June landings

Alabama's new red snapper data collection program appears to show that federal regulators grossly overestimated the state's landings during this past June's nine-day season, according to the Marine Resources Division.
Since landings estimates play a major role in determining subsequent recreational quotas, overestimating the catch ultimately lead to unwarranted reductions in season lengths.
MRD released its findings Tuesday at the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council meeting in Biloxi.
