Vietnam has overtaken China to become the biggest exporter of frozen fish fillet to Brazil, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
The Brazil fish fillet import market is rapidly expanding, and it is one place where pangasius and twice frozen pollock fillets compete head to head.
As of Sept 15, Vietnamese firms shipped 44,000 tons of frozen pangasius fillet to Brazil, while Chinese companies exported 33,000 tons of fish to the South American country.
Vietnam raked in $86.2 million from seafood export to Brazil as of Sept 15, up 19% year on year, the VASEP noted.
Currently, Vietnamese pangasius fillet is sold at $2.02-$2.08 a kilogram in the market, the VASEP added.
