High pollock H&G prices, impact of Russia trade ban is focus of Groundfish Forum

ROME, ITALY – The impact of Russia’s Aug. 7 ban on imports of food from various countries is the focal point of the annual Groundfish Forum, held this year in Rome, Italy, from Oct. 14-16, reports Tom Seaman.
As Russian buyers are no longer able to import seafood and other food from European Union, the US, Canada, Norway and Australia, demand is increasing for its own whitefish.
The impact of this means the Groundfish Forum, which is not open to the media, has a special focus on Russia this year.
“We have asked all the presenters to give five minutes to the impact on the Russian situation on their sector, ” said Klaus Nielsen, CEO of processor A. Espersen and also chairman of the Groundfish Forum executive committee.
