NOVO-OGARYOVO, Russian President Vladimir Putin is recommending that Governor of the Kamchatka territory Vladimir Ilyukhin work on subsidizing railway shipments of fish products.
Putin and Ilyukhin held a meeting on Monday at which Ilyukhin reported to the president on the socioeconomic situation in the territory. This mostly concerned catching and transporting fish.
"Problems exist here, especially during the fishing season. We ship [products] through Vladivostok, and of course, the railway and Primorye port are not fully coping with their tasks. Prices are growing and there are big problems with rolling stock," Ilyukhin said.
Putin said the Russian government was currently working on subsidizing railroad shipments. He asked Ilyukhin whether the territory's authorities were at all participating in this. The governor said the region was not involved in regard to the fishing industry.
"It's necessary to get involved," Putin said.
