American Shrimp Processors see Oceana's report as helpful to their campaign against imported shrimp

The American Shrimp Processors Association has issued supportive response to Oceana's report of shrimp mislabeling among restuarants and retailers. The group said the report gives them an opportunirty for their group to educate foodservice professionals understand the differences between domestic and imported shrimp.
The ASPA accounts for the vast majority of domestic, U.S. production of warm-water shrimp from Gulf and South Atlantic waters, and said they are concerned with the findings of Oceana's report. They dovetail with the groups previous campaigns against imported shrimp, in which they often claim - based on little evidence - that imported shrimp have quality issues.
The membership encourages the use of wild caught Gulf shrimp, and is currently enjoying premium prices.
