BMR Group, operating 8 hatcheries and 2 plants in India, joins GAA as sustaining member

BMR Seafood is the latest sustaining member of the Global Aquaculture Alliance. The company is the United States division of BMR Group, India’s largest hatchery and shrimp seed producer.
The BMR Group owns and operates 12 hatcheries and low-density shrimp farms with 300 operational ponds on 200 hectares. Several of the facilities are certified under the Best Aquaculture Practices program.
BMR recently completed construction of a 6,000-square-meter, state-of-the-art shrimp-processing facility. Future plans include construction of what would be the largest feed mill in India. The new facilities will allow BMR Group to maintain control of the full supply chain, creating the only four-star BAP-certified shrimp operation in India.
Last year, BMR produced 6 billion shrimp postlarvae that supplied one-third of India’s small independent farmers. In addition to seed, BMR Group offers technical support and biosecurity procedures that help producers raise their shrimp more responsibly.
