Jellyfish invasion killed 300,000 salmon at Loch Duart farm

An invasion of jellyfish has killed more than 300,000 salmon in a Western Isles fish farm. Thousands of the mauve stinger jellyfish forced their way through safety nets at the Loch Duart fish farm in Lochmaddy, wiping out £1 million worth of stock.
Some of the salmon managed to survive the attack but were then killed by winter weather.
Nick Joy, managing director of Loch Duart, said it was a "terrible blow".
He added: "We have seen these jellyfish before but not in such large numbers and in each case, though the fish have been disturbed, they have survived the encounter.
The attack November 19 was followed by severe weather.
