AKCRRAB readies next batch of egg-bearing blue and red king crabs for Kodiak restoration project

The Alaska King Crab Research, Rehabilitation and Biology Program (AKCRRAB) has again coordinated with local Alaskan fishermen and others with a stake in the crab industry to collect and house egg bearing blue and red king crabs. The effort is part of an ongoing study that is researching the feasibility of rebuilding the stock in Kodiak.
According to the AKCRRAB both blue and red king crabs were collected in November and December for the project. Thirty egg-bearing red king crabs were captured in Alitak Bay in early November. Mitch Simeonoff from Ahkiok, and Rick Metzger, a fisherman and resident of Deadman's Bay, collected the crabs.
"Interest and support from the crab industry and fishermen is advancing king crab research in Alaska. Broodstock collection is expensive and time-consuming, and AKCRRAB could not continue without this partner support," the AKCRRAB said...
