Strength in the Beef, Egg Markets Last Week

The beef market saw mild strength last week as the Choice cutout was up 3.2% compared to the previous week. Ribs were the big gainer on the week, as buyers looked to warmer weather and increased demand for steaks soon to come. Packers maintained lighter slaughter schedules in the effort to bring up margins.
The pork carcass cutout declined 4% last week. Trade was reportedly sluggish. Soft wholesale values and a strong rebound in hog prices resulted in a sharp decline in packer margins. This may ...
