Russia Considering Setting Up State-Owned Atlantic Salmon Hatcheries

Government-financed Atlantic salmon hatcheries may be created in Russia. According to a statement of Russia's Federal Agency for Fishery, Ilya Shestakov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery, instructed fishery research institutions to prepare and present proposals on the possible creation of fish hatcheries at the subordinated scientific research institutions or fish breeding companies.
Such hatcheries are meant for the formation, maintenance and breeding of Atlantic salmon to provide commercial fish rearing companies with fish seed.
