Trident Seafoods has completed its new $22 million fishmeal and oil production facility at North Naknek, making it the first such operation in Bristol Bay.
Trident plans to have the facility running at full capacity by July in order to produce fishmeal and fish oil products for aquaculture and pet feed. The facility will use all of the byproducts produced by its Naknek salmon plant this summer.
“We feel this is a logical progression for responsible fishing and processing operations,” said Trident chief sustainability officer, John van Amerongen. “Now that Alaska has established a strong record for managing our fisheries responsibly, it makes sense to continue our investments in product recovery and full utilization. What comes out of a plant is just as important as what goes into it, and we are continually looking for new opportunities to refine our operations and develop new markets.”
