Louisiana's Shrimp Task Force Supports Passage of TED Enforcement Repeal

The Louisiana Shrimp Task Force announced support for this week's passage of a bill that will repeal the state's ban on enofrcing federal turtle excluder device and bycatch reduction device regulations.
On Wednesday Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal wsigned into law HB 668, which will repeal states that had prevented Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents from enforcing federal TED and other bycatch regulations. The law will go into effect on August 1.
“Today is a monumental day for our shrimp industry and will show the world that Louisiana fishermen and processors have always been concerned with the successful management of our shrimp fishery, said Mark Abraham, Shrimp Task Force Chairman. “The Shrimp Task Force applauds Governor Jindal and our state legislators who worked with us to pass this legislation.”
