NOAA Predicts 2015-16 Gulf of Mexico Brown Shrimp Catch to Trend 24% Under Historical Average

NOAA expects the Gulf of Mexico brown shrimp harvest between now and June 2016 to trend well under the historical average due to a notably wet spring season.
According to the Agency, the Gulf of Mexico brown shrimp harvest is expected to reach 42.8 million pounds. This is a 24 percent decline from the 54-year average of 56.5 million pounds.
Heavy bouts of rain across Texas and Louisiana produced record rainfall in the area, notably in May. The result was a large discharge of freshwater into estuaries throughout the Gulf. Rains were so heavy it end ended Texas' four-drough in just a single month...
