Sea Lice "Bath" System Shows Promise of Reducing Costs for Chilean Salmon Producers

Three aquaculture science and technology firms have developed a sea lice management system that has so far shown promising results in reducing outbreaks among salmon farms at a lower cost.
GMT Marine Farm, Storvik Aqua and Pharmaq's system wraps a canvas around a salmon or fish pen to better contain the drugs used to combat sea lice. This prevents the drugs from escaping into the ocean and creates a higher and more consistent concentration of the drug in the covered pens.
The companies said the system reduces costs since the anti-sea lice "baths" provide a more concentrated and effective means to treat the ponds.
