Echebastar Tuna Not MSC Certified as Final Report Validates WWF Objection, Independent Adjudication

The Echebastar Indian Ocean purse seine tuna fishery does not meet the Marine Stewardship Council’s requirements to carry the certification according to a reassessment of the fishery. The decision supports both a WWF objection to the original certification and the findings of an independent adjudicator.
A report by Acoura, the Conformity Assessment Body responsible for the assessment, found the fishery failed to meet the minimum score required under the MSC Fisheries Standard’s Performance Indicator for harvest control rules.
