FDA to do Intensive Sampling of High Risk Food Commodities; Does Not Plan to Target Shrimp in 2016

The FDA announced more information about a new intensive sampling program it will undertake as part of the new food safetey and modernization act.
The sampling is to implement a risk-based preventive approach and to give the FDA data on imported foods that are potential sources of illness.
Shrmp is not considered a high-risk food by the FDA. Despite the lobbying of some domestic shrimp producers, there has been no evidence of any human disease caused by imported shrimp.
In their microbiological sampling program, the FDA is targeting foods that potentially contain E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella or Listeria monocytogenes.
During the first year of this new effort in 2015, the FDA focused on sprouts, whole fresh avocados, and raw milk cheese (aged 60 days). The FDA collected more than 800 samples total and tested them for Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes and E. coli O157:H7....
