Just 3% of Sacramento River's Winter Run Salmon Eggs Hatched into Fry

The Golden Gate Salmon Association was critical of the state's water allocation decisions in a statement this week after a NMFS report found just three percent of the upper Sacramento River's winter salmon eggs hatched into fry.
The Association's Executive Director John McManus blamed the poor hatch report on water allocation decisions that have now decimated the Sacramento River's winter salmon run over the last two years.
"State and federal fish agencies are charged with restricting water allocations to protect our fish and wildlife in drought," said McManus. "Salmon fishermen all up and down the west coast are asking how the state and federal fish and wildlife agencies failed to protect winter run the last two years in a row."
