Algae Bloom Accelerated But Did Not Worsen Job Cuts in Chile's Salmon Sector

Chile's salmon industry officials say this year's algae bloom accelerated a wave of layoffs that was expected to hit the industry by 2017.
A report from SalmonChile found a 13 percent cut to salmon sector jobs since the February algae bloom cut the industry's expected production by 20 percent to 700,000 metric tons.
Roughly 4,000 jobs have been lost since last year. To date, the sector employs about 25,000 workers across Chile...
