Hawaiian Seafood Council Refutes AP's Labor Abuse Claims in Commercial Longliner Fleet

The Hawaiian Seafood Council issued a fact sheet to clarify details from an investigation by the Associated Press that found foreign fishermen aboard Hawaiian vessels may be subject to labor abuse and now appear to be fishing with illegal permits.
According to the most recent Associated Press story, which was published on February 10, Hawaii appears to be violating its own rules that require commercial fishermen to obtain a state-issued fishing license.
In order for any fishermen to get such a permit the workers need to be “lawfully admitted” to the US the AP investigation says...
