Washington Gray Whale Calf Died Due to Entanglement in Crab Lines

CAPE DISAPPOINTMENT, Washington — Examination of an entangled gray whale on May 4 revealed it was a calf that died after being caught in crab pot lines, Olympia-based science group Cascadia Research Collective reported May 6.
The whale, a 20-foot, 7-inch male born this calving season, was initially reported dead on Saturday morning, April 29, anchored in place half a mile off of the Seaview beach approach on the Long Beach Peninsula.
