Japanese Salmon Consumption Fell More than 10% in 2016-17; Supply Shrank Too

Salmon supply and demand for the 2016-2017 salmon season (May 2016-April 2017) in Japan was nearly finalized as the import volume for April and end-April inventory (preliminary figure) were made public.
Supply plunged more than 10 precent due largely to the decrease in fall chum and Chilean coho, while consumption shrank by the same margin because of raw material and product price hikes, showing a general shrinkage in both supply and demand.
