The co-operatives responsible for Japanese landings of Hokkaido scallops in the Sea of Okhotsk have reported their results. Final landing volume should come to around 205,000 tons.
This is the largest volume in the past three years.
According to the Hokkaido Federation of Fisheries Cooperative Associations, overall cumulative landings as of Nov. 20 was 203276 tons, up 16% from a year before.
Final overall landings are foreseen to total around 205,000 tons as compared with 178800 tons last season.
The Hokkaido Federation says that actual landings in the northern area exceeded their initial plan by 17%, with those in the southern area standing about 5% beyond that level.
Local scallopers note that this is due to increased landings in the spring, with more adult scallops.
