More China Crack Downs on High-Value Seafood Smuggling From Vietnam

Seafood smuggling has long been an open secret in China’s seafood industry. In recent years, the government has taken several measures against these illegal activities. It has signed free trade agreements with foreign countries to reduce tariffs and has also taken action against smugglers. Recently the customs departments have uncovered two large-scale smuggling cases.
On January 2, Nanjing customs cooperated with departments in other regions to seize a seafood smuggling gang that had worked in frozen markets of Wuxi and Kunshan of Jiangsu province. Customs found four suspects and made three arrests. Initial research shows his gang smuggled 8,000 tons of frozen seafood worth 200 million yuan (~$30.1 million USD).
