Russia Moving ahead with $1.4 Billion Crab Auction that Critics Say Will Destabilize Industry

The Russian government plans to generate up to RUB 80 billion (US$1.4 billion) from the sales of crab quotas on auctions, the introduction of which is currently considered by the government, according to latest statements of Ilya Shestakov, head of the Russian Federal Agency of Fisheries (Rosrybolovstvo).
These funds will be generated as a result of sales of almost 50% of the existing quotas for crab catch in Russia ...
